Free PC Virus Removal Tools You Can Consider

Free PC Virus Removal Tools You Can Consider

Computer viruses can affect almost any computer and unless you are protected beforehand you would be in a lot of trouble. Now there are a number of commercial software tools but if you want it only for home use, there are a number of free PC virus removal tools available which you can consider. most of these are feature restricted versions of commercial counterparts so you get the same scanning and fixing engine. To begin with there is AVG Free. This is one of the best free anti virus tools out there because it is easily the lightest anti virus system that you may ever come across. In fact, even if you are running a stone age PC with Pentium 3 processor, Windows 2000 and 128 MB of RAM, this anti virus would be totally inconspicuous and at the same time totally effective. AVG also comes with an in built anti spyware tool. It's also very reliable because it is updated at least once daily automatically. Another option is Avast, Home Edition. This is free for home users and people who use computers for personal purposes. The main thing you will notice with Avast is that the interface of this software can be skinned. Now why would anyone want to skin an anti virus is something too complicated to understand. But when it comes to doing its real job, Avast does excel. It's really good and its VRDB feature is one thing that makes the tool really stand apart from the crowd.Avast is not resource intensive so it can be easily run on any PC bought in last 5 years or so. It too comes with an integrated anti spyware module. This saves you from the need of having a separate anti spyware tool on your PC. Avast is totally free but there is an annual nag in it. You have to provide a valid email ID to get the free updates, once in a year. There is no charge but doing it once in a year can be tolerable or annoying depending upon your choice. Your third option is MoonSecure Antivirus. Lesser known than the previous two options it's still a competitor. Apart from its tag line which says "Security from space" this is a really down to earth antivirus tool. The main thing is that this is free and open source software. It means that the program source code is available to anyone who wants it. It can also be used in a commercial setup. The software can be downloaded in the source form and you can make modifications to the code so that they suit your requirements. MoonSecure uses the same core engines which power the well known ClamAV and ClamWin but it is able to do real time scanning which is absent in the Clam family of antivirus solutions. Free PC virus removal tools are available for Microsoft Windows platform in most cases, though Clam AV is available for Unix based systems as well. Conclusion - Yes you can protect your PC using free software adequately. It really depends the level of security you require. Personally, I run a paid subscription anti-virus package on my system but I also have a free package I use to run alongside this. The reason for this is that well-known brands are heavily targetted by virus programmers so running a lesser known suite aswell should catch any malware that slips the net.
