How To Learn The Guitar Quickly

How To Learn The Guitar Quickly

You have been telling yourself for some time that you were going to finally learn to play the guitar, but either time, intimidation or the tedious nature of traditional music lessons with their repetitive style have kept you from going forward. Well, there's good news because I'm going to show you how to learn the guitar quick and easy.

I've been playing guitar for over twenty years myself. I can also play the bass, the piano and keyboards as well. My skills are adequate to sit in with any band, I've written and arranged my own compositions and I'm 100% self-taught.

That's not exactly true, I did take a few weeks of traditional music lessons as a child in grade school, but after spending weeks focusing on how to hold my instrument and play simple scales I became bored and quit.

I hadn't lost my passion to learn to play guitar, but I couldn't handle the notion of playing guitar being boring. It just didn't seem right to me, and it still doesn't--which is why I advocate for teach yourself to play type courses over traditional lessons for most people.

Both will teach you to play your instrument and provide a foundation in music mechanics and theory for you to build upon, but it's in the approach that they differ. Traditional lessons start with the basics and only progress to actually playing once you've mastered them.

Teach yourself the guitar type courses however, start with learning to actually play a few easy and familiar songs, then gradually progress forward to more challenging songs, teaching you the basics you need to know as you go rather than all at once up front.

In my opinion this fosters more of a fun environment for the learning process, and allows you to feel a sense of accomplishment almost instantly that will encourage you to keep going.

Again, both methods will eventually provide you with the same skills and knowledge, and for some people it may be that traditional lessons are preferred, but for the average person who wants to learn how to play guitar it's because they want to express themselves and have fun, and teach yourself the guitar type courses are the better option for that.
