How Our Understanding Of Horoscopes Has Increased

Horoscopes come from the study of astrology. Astrology is the study of the stars and planets. Astrology as has been in practice for thousands of years. In china the season are not that much different from one another like they are in the United States. Farmers in America know to plant crops in the spring, but in China they use the position of constellations to determine the best time to plant new crops.

The Ancient Greeks were among the first to study the stars and sun and planets to use this study in every day life. In the years to follow many other cultures began to use astrology to determine what future events might happen in one's life. Astrology was once used to determine the out come of all major events including wars. This was around 3000 BC when the practice first began.

During the following years many different cultures also began to practice or use Astrology in the decisions that were where made for their planting season. Astrology survived for long time and around the year 500 BC Plato a philosopher studied astrology further and kept the study alive through time.

Though it took a down fall when an astronomer by the name of Galileo Galilei was the first to use a telescope in the early 1500's. This disproved a lot of what many people had believed over the years, but the practice was still used. He agreed with the Copernican Theory that dealt with the movements of the planets.

For many years the study of astrology was put to the side as the Christian Church became the predominant belief system. Astrology was considered to follow along with the beliefs of the early church so very few people explored astrology at this time. The astronomer William Lily renamed the study as Christian Astrology to avoid the wrath of the church during the 1600's. A fellow astronomer followed in the same foot steps in the 1800's who had a large fan base. His name was Alan Leo.

Paul Clancy followed after Alan Leo around the same time period. Clancy published his own magazine called American Astrology. This is how horoscopes and astrology became popular. Magazines are not the only place to read your horoscope today. Astrology has become extremely popular that you can find a horoscope in the daily newspaper, email, and even your cell phone. Astrology has survived for thousand of years and is still going strong into the future.

A person's horoscope, or birth chart as it is also called, is determined by what month and day you were born. The year is made up of twelve different parts which make up what is called the zodiac. These parts or sections are divided into signs.

The zodiac is directly related to twelve different constellations. Depending on when you were born your sign can be one of the following twelve signs: Aries, Taurus, Gemini, Cancer, Leo, Virgo, Libran, Scorpio, Sagittarius, Capricorn, Aquarius, and Pisces. Using your birth month and birth day will let you know which sign you belong.
