The Secrets of an Executive Coach: New York

People often ask me what the secrets to being happy in their job are. The fact of the matter is, and this is speaking from fifteen years as a career coach, New York City-based, is that there are no secrets. Everything is right there on the table. Okay, so I might have some extra insights, and I would certainly hope so as people are paying me a great deal of money for my services as an executive coach. New York businesses often use my services to keep their companies on track and get everyone up to speed. People who are fully aware of their goals and their desires are much more likely to be able to make and achieve goals, so that is probably the best place for anyone to start.

As a life coach, New York City born-and-raised resident and entrepreneur, I know first hand how important it is to have a clear vision of what you want to achieve in life. I also know full well that there is nobody out there who can tell anyone what it is that they want and what does or does not work for them. So, maybe that's a secret- you are the only person who knows the fullness of what you desire in life. One of the biggest stages for my clients is the "figuring it out" stage. I find that, for the most part, people struggle with this for a little while, and then the floodgates open and that list of two or three things becomes a list of forty or fifty.

Another secret would be that no matter what your job is or what you wish could be changed about it, there are benefits that you should be taking advantage of. Perhaps you work for a company who provides you with health insurance. Actually use that insurance and get the health care you receive- some insurance providers even cover parts of massage therapy and acupuncture, so don't assume the worst before you even check it out. Some companies have other perks, such as discount tickets to various events or venues. Even if it isn't a job you intend to stay to keep for long, don't just sulk around until the opportunity you want comes around. Always make the most of every situation.

Finally, and this is one that I very often see in women who are taught to be demure and modest, step up and take credit for you accomplishments. If you do something really amazing at work, don't be afraid for people to know that. Now, don't brag about it, but you might consider approaching it in a way that says "Thanks for trusting this task to me, I've very pleased with how successful that particular venture has been." Not only are you showing proper humility, but you're also putting yourself in the boss's mind for the next project that comes along. You can go one step further and look for things you can do to help the company. When you show that your actions are going to be in the company's best interests, most people will welcome the work.
