Point And Shoot Revolution

Point And Shoot Revolution

It seems like there is a war being fought, the culprit is film and pixels. Both are unwilling to give up. Film has been a forerunner for decades and is unwilling to give up. But it is surrounded and is very close to defeat. With its loyalists slowly loosing out because of lack of ammunition as well as the increasing number of their former comrades becoming turncoats, compromising to using whichever medium when it suits their purposes, would SLR film cameras have to raise the white flag against digital SLR cameras?

After several camera companies folded and discontinued making film cameras and film camera parts there is an added blow to the film SLR camera users since the longetivity of their prices possessions were based on the fact that they could always get some to fix the quirks once they start up again. This was usually hard to do with the compact cameras as well as the digital SLR cameras since repairs usually entail one part of the camera to be replaced. In worse cases, they have to hope their warranty covers replacement if repairs are impossible. But that is quite rare since new models that are released are usually cheaper than the repair. So buying a new camera or new lenses is cheaper but not necessary less draining in ones wallet than having a part replaced in an already falling apart equipment.

The quality of the output, the shadows and light captured, remains the forte of film. Digital cameras can simulate as much as it can. Or so they thought. As the technology behind the SLR camera improves over time, it can provide the quality that is needed that would aid in even the creation of video-like photographs. The advantage of not having to be a victim to a faulty and often highly color selective scanner is a great plus for digital SLR cameras.

The availability of storage is also a bonus. Having to file, pack and protect the photograph is a must. The processing of film also takes a lot of time. Since it requires a certain amount of precision not everyone can do it. And because present processing shops are moving from the old dark room system to the plug and print one, the age of films can fight as much as it can but sooner or later, film cameras would be something that the next generation of photographer would consider worthy of a museum slot.

There is little else that can be debated. The need for speed often compromises quality. And as quality is improved, they would continue to inch their way to domination. As more people post their pictures on their personal sites more often than they frame them and display them in their homes, mega pixels are definitely winning.

Sooner or later, the presently unnoticed electronic picture frames that display whatever picture data that you have saved in it would be discover as the next best thing to decorate ones home. So there would be another set of soldiers to put film into a deeper foxhole.
