Mold Exposure and Health Problems

Mold Exposure and Health Problems

It is interesting to speculate as to why so many people are developing allergy related symptoms. If you are one of the millions of people that do suffer from allergies, then you know how annoying and painful they can be. A large percentage of visits to the doctor are allergy related. There is a significant amount of money spent every year for over the counter and prescription remedies that will help to ease allergy sufferer's discomfort.

A person's genetic make-up can be a contributing factor to their developing allergies and the symptoms related to allergies. Pet dander, certain fibers, air pollution, foods, bee stings, and bug bites are all things that can cause issues in an allergy sufferer's life. Mold is another contributor to allergies although many people as well as their doctors may not recognize this because mold allergy issues are still not researched to the degree and depth that they need to be.

The seriousness of exposure to mold spores has recently become a much talked about topic. While some people have a true aversion to mold even those who are not prone to allergies can be affected by exposure to mold. It can cause some really serious respiratory problems in almost anyone who is subjected to it long enough, especially those who might have a compromised immune system.

Hay fever, runny nose, breathing problems, sinusitis, and skin rashes all of which are associated with typical allergies can actually be the result of mold exposure. These reactions can range from very mild to very severe, depending on the person. Some of the severe reactions to toxic mold can result in hospitalization or in rare cases even death.

The home is often one of the main sources of mold exposure. It is unsettling to think that your favorite refuge can be exposing you and your loved ones to dangerous and toxic mold. It can be caused by flood damaged homes that have not been sanitized as thoroughly as they should have been. Another source of mold growth in the home is a damp basement. A prolonged water leak somewhere in the home can allow mold to grow and if left unattended it could have toxic mold consequences. Mold can even grow as a result of poor ventilation in a bathroom or kitchen. Fans should be used when dampness or humidity are present.

If you find this annoying and possibly dangerous substance growing anywhere in your home it should be taken care of as soon as possible. Clean and scrub the area thoroughly with a disinfectant such as chlorine bleach. Repair any water leaking plumbing and clean that area with disinfectant. Try to find and remedy the source of moisture in a basement or attic. Call for professional help if you are not sure how to solve your mold issues.

Preventing mold in your home before it starts is one of the best ways to keep your family free of mold related allergies. Remember the sooner the mold is removed, the safer your family will be. Only then can you sit back and relax in your home once more.
