There are several things you can do to increase the amount of mileage you get from a tank of gas. You should make sure you vehicle's engine is in top running condition. Having the oil changed on a regular basis will help you in this regard because the engine will burn more fuel when the oil is thick. Check the air pressure of the tries from time to time. It take more fuel when the tires are not inflated to the proper level, but you do have to keep in mind that over inflating them will also burn more fuel.

The spark plugs are another feature than can cause decreased mileage. Make sure they are working properly and replace then when you notice that they are starting to wear out. High octane gas costs more than regular gas. By choosing regular gas when you pull in at the pumps it won't cost you as much to fill up. However, there are vehicles that will only run properly on this type of fuel.
Although you may reach your destination a few minutes sooner, you can save money and increase your rate of mileage by driving at the posted speed limits. Not only will you burn less gas, but you also decrease the risk of getting a speeding ticket. Idling the car when you are waiting in the driveway is a waste of fuel. You are not moving, so why let the engine burn up the gas. It is better to turn off the engine while you wait and then start the vehicle when you are ready to move. Many people let their vehicles idle for a long time when they first start them on cold winter mornings, but if you look at the reports from the experts, your engine only needs about three minutes to be warmed enough for you to move. If you plug the vehicle in at night, you can even eliminate this length of time.
