Posters are some of the best known and most effective marketing tools available to small businesses. You see them almost everywhere you go. And there is a reason for that: they work. They continue to bring business to the companies that use them.
Any small business can benefit from using posters as part of their marketing campaign, and placing them in the correct locations. The design of the posters, however, is very important. There are some things that you should take into consideration as you plan your next poster printing project.
1. Less is more Sometimes, businesses try to include too much information on their posters. Instead, you should try to keep your posters simple yet effective. Place only the information that you need to relay to your customers on them.
2. Think of your Customers As you design your posters, always try to think like your customers. What colors will appeal to your target prospects? What images will entice them to look more closely? What words should you use to relate best to the people who use your products? Get in the habit of thinking this way.
3. Location, location, location When it comes to posters, location really is everything. You have to place your posters in locations where many of your target customers will likely see them.
4. Steal a Peak Don’t be afraid to look at what your competitors are doing with their posters. This is not to say that you should steal their design, but study them to find elements of them that work. Then try to find ways to incorporate those elements into your own design.
5. Color selection Be sure to use colors that work well together (try not to clash). Also consider whether warm colors or cool colors would be more effective on your posters. Think of the types of customers you are targeting when you consider this aspect.
6. Making everything work The text and colors you use on your posters might be perfect as individual units, but that does not necessarily mean that they will work well together. Again, make sure everything works to relate to your target customers.
7. Be Up to date Unless your company is explicitly trying to go with a retro look, stay with a modern design on your posters. Old fashioned looks only work if that is your express purpose. If it’s not, your customers will know it.
8. Don’t overshadow your message Obviously, the design aspects of your poster – the colors, images, etc. – are very important. But be careful not to make them so bold that your overall message is lost. While a bold design can bring attention to your posters, it will only improve your bottom line if your message gets through, as well.
