Various Types Of Antique Crystals

There are all types of antique crystals on the market today for collectors to focus their collections on. Collectors should also know how to properly care for their collections of antique crystals to maintain their appearance.

Any room can gain its own sense of style with the addition of an antique crystal chandelier, but it is extremely important to care for these valuable chandeliers carefully. It is not possible to store antique crystal chandeliers in a dust free environment like a collector can other antique crystals that they collector. Especially if the antique crystal chandeliers are being used as a functional lighting system within their home. It is highly important that a regular cleaning schedule of antique crystal chandeliers be maintained to ensure that they continue looking their best.

The best way to properly clean an antique crystal chandelier, or any antique crystal for that matter, is to either use cleaners that are specially designed for the cleaning of antique crystal or mild dish soap or mild laundry soap. It is advised that collectors first test which every cleaner they decide to use on a location that is hidden before actually using the cleaner on the entire antique crystal chandelier or other type of antique crystal. If pieces on the chandelier are removable, then it is best to remove them so they can be properly cleaned. Also lining your sink and counter with a soft cloth will keep any pieces of the antique crystal chandelier from being accidentally chipped during the cleaning process. Once all the pieces of the antique crystal chandelier has been cleaned, then just allow the pieces of air dry.

Collectors also focus their collections on a wide variety of crystal figurines, especially if a known figurine has been manufactured in a limited quantity. These type of crystal figurines are extremely valuable, but there are several reasons why collectors choose to collect these figurines, which may be as religious symbols, a type of animal, or other reasons. No matter what type of collection a collector will have is normally suited to the personal preference of the collector.

Some antique crystals do contain lead and are known as antique lead crystal. These antique lead crystals can contain more than twenty five percent of lead oxide, which has been added to its weight. An antique crystal or antique lead crystal has to be more than one hundred years old to actually be an antique and then it has to be proven. There are contributions to antique crystals that will help in determining their value such as rarity, condition, age, and other unusual features. However, the condition of any antique crystal is of the up most importance due to those being in excellent shape being so rare and it being so unlikely to be able to locate one.

Collectors should take special precautions when storing their antique crystals, because if they are not stored in the proper environment then tiny particles of dust can collect on them which can actually scratch their surfaces. Antique crystal glassware is wonderful for those sophisticated gatherings with your friends and can be wonderful display pieces, but the best place for these are in a dust free case. Your guest will still be able to visibly see your collection and at the same time you will be protecting your collection from any flaws that can be caused by dust. Another important factor to consider is that antique crystal can be severely damaged if stored in a low humidity environment or if they are exposed directly to sunlight.
