Learn How to Fly a Stunt Kite

If you have recently acquired a stunt kite, also called sport kites or dual line kites, you are probably eager to get out there and start doing tricks. First, however, you need to learn how to fly it. Flying one of these kites isn't hard, but it does take a little bit of work to fly like an expert.
Kite Safety and Preparing Kite Supplies
Before you can head outside to fly your kite, you need to learn a few safety tips and get your kite supplies ready to go. First, you need to make sure that there are no thunderstorms travelling through the area. You also need to find a large space that does not have any power lines, houses, roads, trees, people, or any other things that will get in the way. These sport kites fly at high speeds and with great force, making them almost impossible to stop quickly. Finally, make sure you have all of the pieces needed to fly your kite and that they are all in good condition. Nothing is worse than getting out there only to have a string break and have to go back home.
Putting the Stunt Kite Together
When it is time to get started, gather your kite supplies and assemble your kite according to the directions that came with it. Then, you can lay out the fly lines and check to ensure they are untangled and that they are the exact same length. If they aren't, the kite will immediately start to turn rather than take off into the sky. It is also better to start out flying stunt kites with longer fly lines. It will be harder to do tricks, but your kite will move slower and be easier to control.
Getting Up In the Air
The first time you take sport kites out for a run, it is easiest to have someone hold them up in the air by the middle support and the base. Then, keeping the strings taunt, give your helper a signal to let go and the kite should take off for you. In order to get it off the ground with very little wind, you may need to walk backwards a few steps and keep in mind that it might take a few tries, especially if you haven't flown one before. Once it's up there, hold the lines out in front of your stomach at a comfortable level and let it climb up to a suitable height and ride a good air stream before you start to direct it.
Turning
The best way to learn how to turn stunt kites is to think of the same type of pushing and pulling motion that is used to steer a bike. To turn it to the right, pull on the right line, and pull on the left side for a left-hand turn. Once you get the hang of turning, start by flying it in simple shapes such as figure eights and circles. If you find that it is crashing often, you might be pulling too hard.
Remember that learning something new requires practice. As hard as you try, you will find that most styles of stunt kites crash a lot before you get the hang of it. Once you are skilled at the basics of flying sport kites, you can try tricks that are more advanced. Soon, you'll be adding additional kite supplies and flying sport kites like a professional
