What You Need to Know About L-Glutamine Powder

Next to protein, l-glutamine powder is becoming a hot topic in gyms around the world. L-glutamine is an amino acid that is naturally produced by the body. However, for bodybuilders, the amount that the body is producing really isn't enough, even though there is more l-glutamine in your body than any other amino acid. Again, it's important, and there are several things that you need to know about l-glutamine powder.

First, understand what l-glutamine does for you. It is vital in the function of protein metabolism. It volumizes cells, and it prevents catabolism, which is a state where your muscles are essentially eating themselves. Another very important aspect of l-glutamine is that it increases the body's ability to produce more growth hormones. This, in turn, encourages new muscle growth, and helps to cut down on fat in the body.

Because of the anti-catabolism properties of l-glutamine, your muscles won't experience breakdown - provided that there is always enough l-glutamine in your system. L-glutamine, of course, has many other benefits and functions as well. For example, it is important for a clean intestinal tract. It boosts the immune system. It improves brain function, including alertness and memory. The list of benefits goes on and on.

So, if l-glutamine is already produced by the body, why do you need l-glutamine powder? You need l-glutamine powder supplements because when your body is stressed, and this includes stress from workouts, the l-glutamine is depleted. It needs to be replaced faster than the body is going to produce more of it, especially if you are a bodybuilder.

You can purchase l-glutamine powder in your local health food store, or through online sources. Experts recommend usage between 500mg and 4000mg per day, but bodybuilders should take about 10 to 15 grams per day. This dosage should be spread out through the day. Even just two grams per day will increase your body's output of growth hormones by about 400%.

Ideally, as a bodybuilder, you will want to take l-glutamine powder once in the morning, after your workout, and again right before going to bed at night. If you find that you have trouble sleeping after taking l-glutamine - and some people do, because of the enhanced mental alertness - you should split the amount that you are taking, per day, into two dosages, taken in the morning, and after your workout, skipping the bedtime dosage.

Before you buy an l-glutamine powder, make sure that you are not already getting the additional l-glutamine in other supplements that you currently take. Read the labels! Today, many protein supplements contain l-glutamine, and you need to find out how much l-glutamine powder your protein supplement contains, before you start taking additional l-glutamine! With that said, you are going to be amazed at the difference that l-glutamine makes in your life - and in your bodybuilding efforts.
