Alternative health therapy is becoming more accepted, often replacing conventional treatment. On the other hand, integrated therapies now have scientifically proven high quality evidences of efficacy and safety; this is usually a combination of alternative therapies and mainstream medical treatment. Some healing techniques that conventional medicine does not have is present in alternative therapies. Some of the alternative therapies include: herbal medicine, folk medicine, and homeopathy, diet fads, new age healing, faith healing, naturopathy, chiropractic, and music therapy even though this isn't an exhaustive list. The above treatments are resorted to instead of conventional medicine with a confidence that a disease will be cured.Alternative health therapies can help you feel better and improve your quality of life and improve your general health to give you a sense of control. Reducing stress, tension, sleeplessness, anxiety, depression and making you feel more relaxed. They reduce some of the side effects which are normally noticed in the usual cancer treatments and also help in reducing some of the symptoms like poor appetite, tiredness, pain, sickness, diarrhea, constipation and breathlessness. Alternative health therapies can be very effective at masking pain, which can sometimes hide a more serious underlying condition and are often used in conjunction with conventional medicine. Cancer support groups, some hospitals and hospices provide this type of therapy as part of overall care for cancer, cancer treatments like chemotherapy, radiotherapy etc. these could be free or for a small fee. Many people with cancer now use these therapies to help support themselves through cancer and its treatment. These therapies are very valuable in that they identify and support spiritual and emotional characteristics and physical features, but they should not be used as the only alternative line of treatment.Americans for example, now spend billion annually on alternative health products such as vitamins and herbs. The recent studies that were conducted by Phillips, Tindle, Eisenberg and Davis, reflected that there was roughly seventy two million adults within the United States that use alternative and complementary therapies. According to a study made by Caspi, Craig and Herman in 2005, it is observed that more than billion has been spent on therapies annually. Nevertheless it is important to find out which particular alternative health therapies offer the most effective treatments for your needs, as well as discover which treatments you feel comfortable with. Individual therapies like massage, meditation, acupuncture, homeopathy, aromatherapy, hypnotherapy, reflexology and reiki are proved to be very helpful for some people in improving their life.
