Hair Care for the Summer Season

Hair Care for the Summer Season

Many people envision summer as being a time for beautiful hair with perfect highlights and that long windblown look. However, the reality is that the summer sun and humidity can damage your hair and make it appear dry, drab, split, brittle and frizzy at the ends. It may seem unbelievable, but sunlight can actually be just as harmful as a hot hair dryer, curling iron or straightening iron. If you are aware of your problems then there are many different hair care tips that you can follow to help you and your hair survive the summer sun.

Many people experience static electricity when they shampoo their hair. So a really great hair care trick to avoid this problem is to apply a rinse out conditioner. This will add moisture and shine to your hair almost immediately. If you have very fine or thin hair then you should probably skip this step and opt for a leave in conditioning formula instead. When you get out of the shower you should always lightly towel dry your hair, but during the summer time you need to take some extra steps.

After towel drying, you should apply a drop or two of a leave in product of your choosing. Take the time to find the best one for you and then put a drop or two on the palm of your hand and work it into your hair. Any hair care product that markets itself using the words replenishing or replenishment are specifically designed to add moisture back into the dry strands. These are great summer hair care products to ensure that your hair stays healthy, shiny and strong.

Some other good things to keep in mind during the summer time is that your hair is already being exposed to so much heat and sunlight, so you should really limit the amount that you inflict on it. This pertains to hair dryers, curling irons, electric curlers and straightening irons. These are definitely not things you should use everyday on your hair, regardless of what time of year it is. During the summer time try and give your hair a break during those months and consider just letting your hair air dry. Also, try not to use curlers in your hair because they only cause extra heat damage that is really unnecessary when you are already being exposed to so much as it is. A great hair care tip is to braid your hair when it is wet because then it will air dry into beautiful waves.
