Better be prepared than sorry, get a critical illness insurance By Francisco Segura
It is a sad fact that even if we live a healthy lifestyle, as we get older we are more prone to sickness; arranging a critical illness insurance policy requires some serious consideration. Providing financial peace of mind for your family by taking out protection for a mere few dollars each week, does not seem as important to most of us as having that luxury cup of coffee every day during lunch. Insurance providers, acting on the statistical information they receive from research institutes now offer this type of protection to every one of their customers.</P Studies have highlighted the problem with almost one man in five by the time they retire having a serious medical condition. Women fair a little better with around 15 percent being diagnosed prior to retirement. Studies have shown that our reluctance to arrange a critical illness insurance policy is our inherent belief that nothing bad will happen. Those that take out critical illness cover normally do so to help pay their mortgage repayments if they are no longer able, but this type of plan can now be added directly to mortgage repayments.Whilst over the last few years the amount of insurance policies arranged online has increased dramatically, not every type of policy was available but coverage for critical illness has now been added. In a rush to provide this type of health coverage, many details are not looked into fully and a number of problems have arisen from attempting to do this online. Not surprisingly, insurance providers often require the applicant to undergo a routine examination to clear up any possible existing complaints right from the outset. This is also for the benefit of the claimant because if they need to contact their critical illness insurance provider, they do not want to receive an insensitive person on the other end of the phone line.Smokers are unfortunately treated as higher risk applicants; this includes anyone who has smoked within the previous year, and as a consequence they are placed in a high risk category. Many things are taken into account when dealing with the risk factor associated with any type of policy including the applicant's age, their overall health, whether the type of work they do is dangerous or any activities they participate in, not just whether they are a smoker. So although a person may be suffering with a terminal illness; critical illness insurance will ensure medical expenses, as well as living expenses are met. For people that have families, there shouldn't even be a discussion about whether this type of plan should be arranged, should there?
