If you are looking for a home in Louisiana, Baton Rouge real estate can provide you with a lot of different options. As one of the fastest growing cities in the South, Baton Rouge neighborhoods are plentiful and varied.
For older homes, buyers should shop in the center of the city. For example, the Garden District, which is just south of the Down Town area, is the oldest subdivision in Baton Rouge. It is famous for its Queen Anne Colonial architecture and for the Cherokee roses throughout the development.
If price is more of an issue than design a few of the most popular and affordable neighborhoods include Zachary, Baker, and Brownsfield. South Baton Rouge is also a popular area, but it is definitely more expensive because houses in that area sell for $245,000 or $275,000. In general, the southern neighborhoods are more expensive than the northern neighborhoods.

Before you begin planning the structure, it would be wise to find the land first. Fortunately, there are plenty of lots on the market which makes it easy to find an attractive site for construction.
If you want to enjoy the flourishing economy in Baton Rouge without spending a lot on housing, you might be lucky enough to find a few foreclosures that meet your budget and your needs. Foreclosures are usually a little harder to find and less plentiful than normal real estate listing, but they can become really good deals. For example, you might be able to get a $189,000 home for as little as $76,000.
