Credit Card Rewards - A Brief Review

The needs of the millions of potential customers of the credit card companies are varied and always in a state of change. The credit card companies have to be very competitive in order to stay current on which offers are more suitable to fulfill the customer’s desires.

Most credit card companies offer a few rewards to their customers, these are used as incentives to make their particular card more attractive to prospective customers. The incentives are added through a points system based on the number of purchases you make with your card in a certain amount of time. The more purchases you use your card for, the more incentives you are rewarded. If you want to acquire a certain reward, you can use a period of time to collect enough points to earn that reward. You have to examine the credit card offers in order to decide which reward programs will meet your needs.

Most credit card providers offer four types of credit card reward packages which are outlined below.

One type of reward package offered by most credit card providers is the one, which has frequent flier miles. This package offers points from each purchase that can be redeemed for frequent flier miles on a participating airline. You can have substantial savings each year on the cost of airfare if you are a regular flier or a business executive. The frequent flier miles has been one of the most popular incentives since it was first offered.

Another type of incentive offered by the credit card companies is the cash back rewards. This reward package has been used by the majority of providers since credit cards were first offered. The cash back awards are taken from a certain percentage of the total purchases made in a particular period of time. For example, a dollar for dollar percentage rate of 2% of each dollar will give you $20 for a purchase of $1000. Of course, there are also promotions that certain companies can provide that can increase this rate even higher, making you eligible for even greater bonuses. Sometimes card companies will offer a sign up incentive that can almost double the cash back while others will offer incentives that increase the cash back trate if you shop and spend in a certain store.

The gasoline rewards package could easily be one of the most sought after incentive programs in these times of ever-increasing gas prices. The credit card provider will issue a rebate based on a pre-set percentage rate. The calculated amount of the rewards will be based on the purchases made by the credit card holder. This type of credit card is a morphed version of the cash back type, that specializes in gasoline purchases.

The retailer awards system is a very inviting incentive package for the avid shopper. This incentive system uses a partnership between the credit card providers and various retailers. The retailer rewards are given to provide cash savings and discounts on the products available to the cardholders who make a certain amount of purchases or a number based on what is the established policy for incentives. A percentage of each purchase made is put toward store credit in the participating retail establishment. This could include small items such as electronics, clothing, or groceries, or big-ticket items such as cars or jewelry. You may be required to pay more for a premium card, which may offer the best incentives.

Perhaps you can use some of the above information to help you make a decision on which credit card and incentive package will work best for you. Consider carefully whether or not the incentive package is worth the extra you may have to pay for the use of it.
