Why Postcards Work

By Robert Johnston

Why Postcards Work

Of all the advertising tools available to a small business, postcards are among the most effective. They are relatively quick and easy to produce, they get read, people don’t mind getting them, they are cheap, and they just plain work. What more could you ask?

Here is a closer look at why postcards can help your small business:

They are Quick and Easy
You can design a postcard in a very short amount of time. There are many templates available that you can use to speed the process up even more. Once you have them designed, it is also quite easy to address and send them, because of their standard size. You can conceivably design a postcard in one day, send it to your printer, and have them out to the customers just a few days later. There are not many advertising materials that can begin working for you that quickly.

People Actually Read Them
Most people simply throw away letters from someone they do not recognize. Postcards, however, are far too easy to read for them to be completely ignored. Even if your customers only read the postcard on the way to the trash can, they have still seen your ad and heard your company name, and that is a good start. Usually, though, they will look more closely at your postcards and give you the attention you were trying to get.

They are Popular
Just like people throw away unknown letters, they hate getting unsolicited marketing literature. Postcards, however, are a bit different. Usually, postcards come from friends and relatives, so they will be in a better mood when they see the one you send. You might want to remember this as you design your postcard printing project: design your postcards to resemble a casual card from a friend.

You Can Afford Them
Postcards are relatively cheap. Because of their standard size and the fact that you don’t need a lot of ink to print one, they are less expensive than other things such as brochures. Most of the time, you can get quite a few postcards printed and sent out for a very reasonable price.

They Work
Businesses continue to print and send postcards because they continue to be effective. Because of all these reasons that we have discussed, postcards can generate a healthy boost in sales for your company. Plus, more than most other marketing tools, postcards can generate quick results. You can design and print your cards in just a few days, and have them in your customers’ mailboxes shortly after that.

As you can see, postcards are a model of efficiency. They can be especially useful for young businesses that are just starting to get a foothold in their market. But, no matter how big your company is, you should consider utilizing this great tool.
