Chin Augmentation - the Basics

Chin surgery most commonly known as mentoplasty, is a procedure performed surgically to change the shape of the chin by enhancing it either through an implant or by reducing the bone or moving the bone forward giving the face a balanced look. This surgery can get you the desired look and is certainly what a lot of females are doing today.

The mentoplasty or the chin surgery is performed by making an incision either in the crease line of the patient just under the chin or inside the mouth where the gum and lower lip meet together. In the entire procedure the plastic surgeon stretches this tissue and creates a space between the gum and the lower lip so that an implant can be inserted. A natural tissue is formed by a synthetic material which looks alike a normal tissue found in the chin for the implant, this is largely available in different shapes and sizes. This allows the fitting of the implant to the configurations of the patients facial features. After the implantation surgery the plastic surgeon uses the fine sutures to the complete the incision. During the procedure when the incision is inside the mouth of the patient, no scarring is perceptible. In other case when the incision is under the chin then in that case the scar is hardly noticeable.

Chin Augmentation which is also known as enhancement genioplasty, is a procedure which helps surgically to improve a small chin with a silicone chin implant. With this type of implantation it provides extra tightening of the skin under the chin. In this process a small incision is made inside the mouth or under the chin and then an implant made up of synthetic material is placed directly above the chin and underneath the muscles. When the implant gets completely placed into the pocket the incision is closed with the help of sutures. In this procedure the possibility of scar is under the chin which is hardly visible on the patients face.

In the other process where the incision right inside the mouth the plastic surgeon places a piece of chin bone and moves it forward and then puts it back into its place. In this type of surgical procedure visibility of scar is not found as the incision is performed inside the mouth of the patient. After the mentoplasty surgery the plastic surgeon will complete the process by way of sutures in-order to secure the implant in its new position.
