The rise in popularity of people attending Beauty College is due to the large variety of careers you can have from attending one. When you enroll in a beauty college or some type of cosmetology school, you can become a licensed or certified masseuse; nail technician, hair stylist, esthetician or manicurist. All of these professions are in high demand regardless of where you live because they are services that people around the world subscribe to. Massage is loosely defined as the treatment and manipulation of the soft body tissues with physical, functional and even possibly physiological purposes and goals. Licensed massage therapists know how to alleviate pain that is either something you experience on a regular, daily basis or merely a temporary pain that is a result of some type of strain or injury. Some of the things you will learn in Beauty College are Swedish massage, reflexology, hydrotherapy, deep tissue massage, sports massage, chair massage, and stone massage. All of these are methods and treatments you must be familiar with in order to receive your license to be a massage therapist. Your overall goal as a licensed massage therapist is to help your clients and improve their overall quality of life.
In the massage therapy department of Beauty College, you have the opportunity to learn different modalities as well as fundamental business skills. These are very important because many massage therapists go on to open their own business or join in a practice with another partner. Each Beauty College has its own curriculum with different classes, but the basics and foundations are all the same.
If you attend an accredited Beauty College, some of the classes you would be offered would include anatomy, kinesiology, massage history and theory, salon management, ethics, massage techniques and procedures, and skin conditions and disorders. No matter what Beauty College you choose to attend, it is important to be sure you have all of these skill sets to build for a successful future as a licensed massage therapist.
