It may sound weird, but curing loneliness by being alone actually works really well. It gives you a good time to reflect on all the positive things in your life and keep from dwelling on the negatives. Remember, most of the time, the negatives are temporary anyway. Learn to be at peace being alone because in the long run, this is going to make you a better partner for someone else. Those who can love themselves have the most luck being able to let others love them too.
You may also want to look into finding a gay community center in your neighborhood. It is always nice to meet people who are going through the same emotions as you and generally, these types of centers attract guys with positive attitudes. Joining an online dating community may also help you become more confident with yourself and your new life. Allow yourself to feel liberated by this new change, not scared.
