Maybe you will have enough luck to have in your group someone who talked with your boss about his or her tastes. You should have in mind both the occasion and the environment where you work. Buying the proper gift is not that hard if you use your common sense so you can avoid vulgar things. You could buy an item that is very useful to your boss.
When you have in mind a specific idea decide on who will go for purchasing you should also think about buying a card for everyone who contributed to sign. It is very important for each one of your co-workers to have been included in this before you give the gift to your boss. You will find that purchasing a group gift to your boss is a better idea than worrying about what you can offer by yourself.
