Meet The Peanuts Gang By Phoenix Delray
The Peanuts Gang are the characters that comprise the comic strip by Charles M. Schulz. The Peanuts comic strip made its debut on October 2, 1950 and was welcomed by fans across the country. The main characters in the strip are Charlie Brown, Linus, Lucy, Schroeder, Sally, Peppermint Patty and Snoopy, however, there are also many reoccurring characters, but they only appear in the background. Charlie Brown is the main character of the storyline and he is a clumsy, but lovable guy. He rarely excels in anything that he does because he is dominated by his insecurities. He is subjected to a lot of ridicule from the rest of the Peanuts gang, his friends, but underneath it all, everyone loves Charlie Brown. Linus van Pelt is the best friend of Charlie Brown. Linus is arguably the most intelligent character in the Peanuts gang, often quoting the gospels and philosophizing about life to the others.
In stark contrast to his intelligence is his blue blanket. Linus is never without his blanket and wears it over his shoulder while sucking his thumb. The introduction of the blanket into the comic strip is actually how the phrase security blanket was coined. The blue blanket often takes on a role of its own in the comic strip and is constantly sought out by Snoopy.
Lucy van Pelt is the older sister of Linus. She is definitely the crabby and cynical one in the Peanuts gang and is always mean and belittling to Charlie Brown. She often refers to Charlie and Linus as blockheads while she taunts them. Lucy has three main storylines: the football with Charlie Brown, Linus and his security blanket and Schroeder. For years, Lucy offers to hold the football for Charlie Brown while he kicks it, but every time he gets close to it she yanks it away, causing him to flip up in the air and land painfully on his back.
This goes on for years until she finally promises not to when Charlie is in the hospital. Of course, as soon as she keeps her word, Charlie misses the ball and injures Lucy. Lucy despises her younger brothers obsession with his security blanket and battles with him everyday to give it up. Probably the biggest storyline involving Lucy is her love for Schroeder. Lucy spends much of her time following Schroeder around and listening to him play the piano, but he always rejects her. Some people viewed this as karma because Lucy was always so mean to the other members of the Peanuts gang.
