So, what is this mistake?
You might be surprised by the answer since this is supposed to be the logical thing to do. Unfortunately, being logical in this scenario will not help you but will make the situation worse instead.
The mistake is simply to argue about the break up. Why is this a big mistake? Well, there are various reasons. Perhaps you can't accept the reason he/she gives for the break up. Therefore, you tried to reason with him/her why he/she should not break up with you. Chances are not only will you fail to convince him/her, you will drive him/her further away. This can cause even more arguments.
The next reason why you don' want to argue is because you do not want to appear needy. Think about it this way, do you like a needy person who keeps on clinging onto you? Chances are you will try your very best to get rid of him/her. That is why you do not want to argue or beg him/her to come back to you.
Instead, what you will want to do is to agree with the break up. This may sound counter intuitive but it works. First, this is something that he/she did not expect. He/she will never expect that you will agree with the break up. In fact, he/she might even feel "angry" that you accepted the break up so graciously. Instantly, you place yourself in an advantageous position.
If you have already made the mistake mentioned above, do not panic as there are still things that you can do to reverse or even improve the situation. Therefore, you still have the ability to stop a breakup.
