Modern Ways To Obtain Today's Perfect Smile

It's pretty common to long for a really great smile. A kind of smile that shines whitely and brightly that you can show to the world. The dream of the perfect smile is becoming more attainable and people are spending much of their incomes on teeth whitening procedures. With the latest technology it is not uncommon to go into the dentist for teeth whitening procedures to try to get that perfect smile.

Whitening the teeth procedures are a valuable way to lighten the color of the teeth and leaves the surface of the tooth intact. Unfortunately teeth whitening procedures will only lighten the existing color of the teeth. With only a few that are truly blessed with very white teeth it is difficult for many to achieve that great white smile. Teeth seem to discolor as we grow up leaving our smile less than sparkling.

Our teeth can also be stained on the outer part because of the food and drink. Coffee, tea, blackcurrant and red wine have effect on the discoloration of our teeth. Smoking is another cause of teeth discoloration. Most people may encounter staining beneath the surface which is caused by tiny cracks in the teeth or certain antibiotics that absorb the stains.

The most common way to lighten the teeth is by bleaching. Always get the approval and recommendation of your dentist before beginning a teeth bleaching procedure. The method is done by putting a special gel or rubber guard on the soft tissue and then the bleaching solution will be applied to the teeth with the use of a special mouth shaped tray.

The chemicals actively involved in the bleaching solution are generally hydrogen peroxide and carbamide peroxide. The solution begins to break down and allows oxygen to enter the surface of the tooth causing it to lighten in color. Teeth bleaching usually will take about 3 to 4 weeks to complete.

This treatment usually requires at least 3 dental visits. At the first visit the dentist will create your special mouth guard and take impressions of your teeth. After you complete the entire procedure you will want to continue with regular maintenance at home to keep the teeth from discoloring again.

As mentioned before discuss this procedure with your dentist before beginning as it may become uncomfortable for some. However, you can be showing off that winning white smile should teeth bleaching be right for you.

Laser whitening, otherwise known as power whitening is often considered the best teeth whitening method. It is however rather expensive making it unavailable to many.

A rubber dam protects the soft tissue and is placed over the teeth in laser whitening. The whitening solution is painted directly on the teeth instead of using the tray. To activate the solution a laser is used. The light will accelerate the chemical reaction and the lightening effect is often seen immediately.

The whitening effect of the laser whitening procedure can often last up to three years. Of course you are advised to avoid teeth discoloring activities such as smoking, drinking coffee and red wine and eating foods that may stain the teeth as well. Some people report a sensitivity of the tooth after treatment; however, they usually go away within a week.

There are other types of whitening for the teeth; the aforementioned ones were just the most popular. The cost can be significant but is nearly always worth it. There's nothing like the feeling you get when you flash that perfect smile.
