Modest Gown and Dresses: Selling the Style not Sex By Art Gib
Even where today's fashion leans toward the lean, sleek and revealing sexy-styled lines ,even for wedding occasions, there is a rising strong demographic who seeks more modest clothing. Those who are more conservative and religious, believe in the virtue of covering the body liberally, especially in a traditional ceremony like a wedding. So modest wedding dresses and gowns do have their niche in the marketplace.
Modest Fashion Found in Specific Geographic Areas and Religious Niches
Shopping for a modest wedding gown is often a trick when you are bringing top fashion into the equation. Fashion finds itself gravitated toward immodesty due to the prevalent interest in getting sex to sell, which can of course be found in most ad campaigns and commercials world wide. However the modest wedding dress is getting attention in certain geographic areas whose prevailing religious belief systems dictate these choices.
One of these geographic regions is in and around the state of Utah where Latter Day Saint (Mormon) beliefs call for modesty in daily life. The sanctity of marriage held in high regards where modesty is equal to purity. However, in these regions the choice of modest wedding gowns is plentiful. There you can not only find good choice of gowns but modest bridesmaid gowns and modest reception gowns.
Another demographic that concentrates on modesty in marriage clothing is in Muslim community. Muslim modest wedding dresses are similar to LDS in a sense they have many dresses that cover much of the leg. Although LDS dresses are a little less so in some aspects, the obvious difference is the use of the head covering, which is usually part of a Muslim's two-piece wedding Abaya.
The term abaya is simply a general term for garment worn by Muslim women to cover themselves. The term is somewhat used as a basis for Islamic dress whose meaning is ubiquitous without certain contexts. So in the fashion world the abaya is usually referred to dress that is either black or light colored dresses that have delicate embroidery and simple art stitched into the fabric.
Aside from Weddings, the modest prom dress often gets shopped for often in the above mention demographics also.
Here are some factors that are factored in to the "modesty" a dress reveals: - The tightness of the dress - Home much of the leg does the dress cover - How deep is the neckline - How deep is the back (low strappy-type dresses are considered immodest)
