As modesty becomes less popular, mothers and daughters all over the country struggle to find beautiful modest dresses for weddings, proms and other formal occasions. I have been in that situation myself and spent hours shopping or making my own clothes. If you don't have the skills to make a beautiful dress on your own, let me give you some hints that should help save you some time as you look for the right dress.
Where to Find Modest Bridesmaids Dresses
Finding modest dresses of any sort is becoming more of a challenge every year, but when you are planning a wedding you don't have time to wait for the styles to change. If you do, you may not find any modest bridesmaids dresses in time.
One of the best places to find modest clothing is Utah. This is surely a result of the conservative standards that so many Mormons in the area uphold. If you live some place like Maine though, a shopping trip to the Midwest probably isn't a probably solution. Fortunately, a lot of Utah stores sell their dresses online. Ordering a dress based on pictures obviously isn't as fun or glitch-free as picking one up at a store, but when your choices are limited it's not a bad option.
Bringing Modest Dresses to your Area
Even if the predominant style for formal dresses these days are strapless, backless and low-cut dresses, there is obviously a need for modest dresses in many areas as well. If you are tired of shopping online for all your modest clothes, and you want to bring those clothes into the shops that are close to home, here are a couple things that you can do.
Write a couple letters to your favorite fashion chains expressing your interest in modest formal dresses and have other girls and parents who are looking for them sign them too. Or you can host a fashion show to promote the style. Some stores will even help provide you with the dresses you need because they want to expand to new geographic areas.
Typical Price Range for Modest Bridesmaid Dresses
Bridesmaids dresses can cost anywhere from $70 - $400+ dollars. One trend that I have noticed is that the traditional styles are less expensive than louder and playful ones. For example, prom dresses tend to be more playful and loud because they appeal to younger girls and they are more expensive than many bridesmaids dresses. If you have a lot of bridesmaids in your wedding plans, I would definitely recommend staying toward the lower end of the price range.
