Powering Up Your Gas Powered Model Plane

Flying gas powered RC airplanes is not as easy as flying electric RC planes. Gas powered RC airplanes have more complicated controls than electric ones. They are also faster in flight and take a lot more time airborne, a quality which is fun for an experienced pilot, but not for the novice. So, it is not advisable for the beginner to start with gas RC planes. Besides the given configurations, the gas powered RC airplanes are costlier than the electric ones and they need more care as well.
But, this shouldn't discourage you. There are many gas powered RC airplanes models in the market today, which have been designed even for beginners. Even if you want to start flying without an instructor to guide you, there are models, which have been made with easier controls and are not too costly to scare you off, especially when you think of it crashing. There are a variety of Nitro powered RC trainers, which will be a good launching pad for a beginner.
Most Nitro powered RC airplanes trainers resemble a Cessna 150. Their wings are placed above the cabin portion and high from the fuselage. Due to this configuration, these models are more stable and easier to control. You should go for a model that has a big wingspan, since larger the wingspan, the easier it becomes for the plane to go up in the air. They are also well designed, to have their wings away from the tail, to make it easy to control, even at low speed. These are qualities that will go well with beginners. But, if you are an expert, try the Extra 300Xs, a model from Midwest. This gas RC plane is reputed for its aerobatic moves and its improved aerodynamics make it easy to control. It comes as a kit, but easy to assemble.
If you go for the ready to fly gas RC planes, then you should think of getting a Hangar 9 Aero Semi-Symmetrical plane. This is one of the models, which is so easy to fly. It is very receptive to controls and takes turns or catches speed as quickly as 'directed'. The plane is very stable while in flight and has an advanced 4-channel radio control system. It is good enough to be controlled even by beginners. You can also try the Thunder Tiger Scooter, which is equipped with a wide wingspan to increase its stability. This plane is very smooth while in flight and gives the pilot time to relax and enjoy the fun. There are other varieties of Scooters, which are nitro powered and almost ready to fly. Other models in this category of almost ready to fly include P-51 Mustang 46, AT-6-46 Army Navy and Spitfire 60 RC Nitro plane ARF.
