Since you are handling the plane, you already feel like a pilot. So, you can gain much knowledge with just reading and handling parts of the model.
If you have a big house and spare time with you, then you can indulge in some model- building plane. You can get a complete unassembled kit, which you need to put together from the scratch. It is painstaking, but a very rewarding experience. Once you are done with, you will know every part of your plane so well. When your plane has a problem, or you see a broken wing, you will be able to repair and put it together with ease. Your hobby could also include a whole set of RC planes. So, indulge yourself, once you have gained the confidence in flying. People will actually envy your efforts and collection.
As a part of your hobby, you can join a local flying club and participate in contests or events, which are good for you and your hobby. You can show your skills. It may take a while, if you are not naturally good at flying. But in the end, the fruit of your labor will be sweet and you will see the trophy on your bookshelf. It will be worth it in the end. If you wish to go in for acrobatic planes later, it would be a good idea.
