RC Planes - A Blast Into The Past

Remote controlled planes are components of the most exciting hobby anyone can pursue. It brings out the creativity of the person building the plane; his mechanical talent, workmanship with different kinds of material and above all the induced adrenalin rush when the plane is in the air. You could just fly your remote controlled plane for an afternoon of fun or race them in a competition where you can get your adrenaline flowing with the speed required to fly your aircraft. There are many types of RC airplanes for you to choose from - a simple glider which can give you an afternoon of fun in the park, to a jet fighter plane with a micro turbine to power and which can reach a speed of up to 250 miles per hour.

In the past model aircraft flying was a very simple hobby, which was meant for all. It did not involve so many different types of models or the various options available now. Model airplane modeling had humble beginnings where the person had to experiment with various materials to build the plane and further go through the trial and error method to make it fly. It took a lot of patience and perseverance by the person who had to create a design and check out the various shapes that would aid in flight. Since there were no hobby stores, the person could not depend on guidelines to make an aerodynamic model. All the same experimenting with model airplanes was an exciting and interesting pastime.

Planes that were made at home were certainly unique with the engines also built by the modeler himself. Props had to be handmade and designed to fit the requirement. It was time consuming to get the right shape and adjust it to the size of the aircraft. Plenty of modifications were needed to ensure the model plane could have a free flight. Even with all drawbacks, there were plenty of people who were drawn to this hobby due to its thrilling nature. These trial and error methods brought about successful models and kits were designed to make the building of these models easier. Even spare parts became easily available and with the popularity spreading, hobby shops came on the scene. Once building model planes was simplified, it attracted more hobbyists and enthusiasts to this world of model airplanes.

Remote controlled airplanes had a tough time in making a mark since the equipment like the radios and batteries were too heavy. Back then the lithium batteries were not available making the load too heavy for a small plane. To compensate the weight factor the planes had to be bigger in size. In today's world there are the gas powered models, glow powered models and the electric ones. They are also available all over and the internet makes things easy as well.

Even though the concept has changed in model RC planes, with the advance in technology the thrill and exhilaration remains the same.
