Choosing The Correct Blinds For Your Home

In this design conscious age that we live in it's easy to be led down a path by magazines and designers that you don't really want to be taken down. As good as choice is, sometimes too much choice can be a very bad thing.

How we manage the light that enters our rooms is in many ways as important as the way we decorate or furnish our homes. To have a beautifully decorated and furnished home ruined by poor light flow would be a terrible shame in the same way that a room that is flooded by light can spoil the ambience of a room.

One option to manage the light coming into a room through a window is to fit blackout blinds. Blinds come in all shapes and sizes as well as many different styles and depending on the effect that you want to achieve you should chose your blackout blinds very carefully.

Blackout blind do exactly as their name suggests, they eliminate all light entering a room through a window. This may sound drastic but the amount of light that is restricted can be altered by adjusting the angle of the blind and the amount that they are opened. On certain blinds you can end up with that very irritating stream of light shining through the slats of the blind this may take a few attempts to sort out but when you have got the blackout blinds working properly you should be very happy with the results.

Each darkness elinination blind will need a slightly different amount of adjustment due to the fact that light enters all rooms in all houses in a different way. If all rooms faced the same way and the light entered at the same angle life would be rather strange. Roller blackout blinds are very popular but are not suitable for all rooms in the house as many front or living rooms may have bay style windows which do not lend themselves to blackout roller blinds.

Light reducing roller blinds usually come in a cassette system only and include the shade installed in the cassette, a chain drive enables the blind to be hoisted and lowered to adjust the amount of light entering the room, side distribution channels and a hindquarters distribution section channel to seal out all light.

Although not specifically designed as a blackout blind good quality venetian blinds can give a very similar result as standard blackout blinds. If purchasing a set of blinds for the purpose of creating a blackout effect you must appreciate that Venetian blinds are not the best solution but may offer up a good half way house between style and light barring. That is, when the slats are tilted to the vertical position to block light, some light inevitably passes through the slats, through the holes and slots in the rungs.

Always look for blackout blinds made of better quality material as some of the cheaper blackout blinds on the market are manufactured with a cheaper fabric which will fade in the bright sunlight over a period of time, reducing the effectiveness of the blind.
