It is always pretty upsetting to go up into your attic only to notice that there has been rain making its way in resulting from a leak in the roof. The one thing that may be even scarier other than noticing there is a really ugly roof dilemma is what it cost you to take care of it. Taking a good look around in your attic on an occasional basis is one clever way to keep from having water problems and those money costing repairs.
The most obvious time to examine your attic for roof leaks that are infiltrating inside is while there is rain occurring. This is a good way to know exactly where the water is originating from. The leaking normally develops because shingles have gotten loose or have been blown off entirely resulting from either terrible weather or inadequate installation. Even when you have a new roof, it is still necessary to check occasionally to see all the roof has been expertly done and that there are no compromised areas.
If you uncover a leaky place quickly enough, any major water destruction might have been remedied. The answer might be as simple as reattaching a few loose shingles or if the tar paper underneath is in compromised shape, an area of this may need redoing as well. When the situation has gotten farther this, it may be a necessity to take out an entire roof section, wood and all, if the wood has gotten wet many times and has proceeded to rot.
Provided you are not fearful of heights and are fairly useful around the home, even putting on a section of roof might not be too hard for you to do. Just be forewarned that climbing up on a housetop can be very dangerous and your home owner's insurance agent could prefer you to seek out a professional as opposed to being liable for any hospital bills also if you slide off and hurt yourself. If you do attempt the repairs yourself, be sure you get on it early and are going to a few days of rain free weather before you begin, according to the amount of repair.
If you know that the roof is old and you see it has many leaks, your wisest alternative will be to have the complete house top re-shingled. If there is no destruction as yet to the wood below the shingles, this can be cheaper by far than lingering about it and probably having to replace a lot of the wood too.
