The Party Girl's Survival Kit By Lorna O'Malley
How to be prepared on a night out, without taking your handbag!
In this article I shall tell you everything that a girl needs to know to be prepared on a night out. Going out to dinner is fine. You can take your handbag and you generally know what you might need - money, keys, phone - and you often know where the night is headed. Well, going out for a nice meal is one thing, but attending a gig, club or party is quite another. Here is where I shall tell you the things that you might need, and ahem, where to put them.
First thing is first. What are you wearing? Does it have pockets? Jeans and jackets are the best choices if you plan on using your pockets as opposed to a handbag for carrying your bits. Flimsy fabrics do no lend themselves well to being stuffed with make-up, keys etc.
Once you have the outfit sussed - lay out what you need to take out with you on your bed. Lets face it, no one likes to carry a bag around all night. Although if you are going to a nightclub, and you plan on staying there, and you know they have a cloakroom that you can check your bag into, then a bag is a great option. Another option is a small purse that you can wear across you on a strap.
Here is a rough list from personal experience for things you may need;
Money - Plastic or paper is best here for obvious reasons. I used to keep money stuffed into my sock or shoe when I went out and coins are not too practical! This works well with boots or trainers, not so well with strappy Jimmy Choos!
Keys - wearing your house key around your neck on a SECURE chain is an option, but if you don't wish to look like a latch key child then perhaps clip it onto your jeans or belt loop with one of those key chains. One small house key can also slip into a purse or wallet.
Phone - I tend not to take my mobile phone out with me, but that’s just the old fashioned gal coming out in me. If you wish to take your phone/camera/and whatever else out with you then make sure that you do actually have a pocket to keep it in, or a bag you are going to check in safely somewhere. Although mobile phones are small, they can still show up in a pocket depending on the outfit, and of course you do dot want it broken, lost or stolen.
Lipstick - very important. Choose mini versions of your favourite make up. You will probably only need a lipstick and some shine control powder - which is often available in a tiny book of paper sheets!
If you don't use non-applicator tampons, then consider it as an alternative to carrying around bulky items which are so not practical! Condoms are nice and small and so if there is a chance that you might need one there is no excuse for you not carrying one with you.
In your coat pocket, a fresh pair of underwear is sometimes a good idea in case you don’t make it home. Depending on available space – a mini toothbrush is useful, especially if you have been drinking.
So there you have it. Make sure you have everything you need - in minature!
