Focusing on Your Strengths is the Key to Discovering Your Passions

By Cassidy Williams

Focusing on Your Strengths is the Key to Discovering Your Passions

When you are in the process of working for your dreams and your goals, you need to celebrate every victory that you achieve no matter how small they may seem. This way, you affirm yourself that you are on the right track. But what if you do not know the right path for yourself? In this case, you may feel afraid and lost in a haze of uncertainty. You might also feel afraid that you are not doing your best in seeking the directions that your life should take.

These fears are but part of the normal processes in your life. But if you do not tame your fears, they will control you. If you become controlled by your fears, your pursuit of your dreams and your goals will be severely undermined. Being controlled by your fears will prevent you from drawing on your skills and talents in pursuing your dreams. Worst, you may be severely discouraged from doing what you truly want to achieve.

Deal with your fears. Name them. As soon as you have identified your fears, you can then deal with these fears with your arsenal of talents and skills. Ironically, when you discover your fears, this serves as one of the gateways through which you can discover your passions and your purpose in life.

Try to think of the activities and things that you love most. Among these, what comes to you naturally? What are the areas in which you excel without exerting mind-numbing, physically-draining efforts? More than just that, what do you love doing even if you are not paid for doing it? Suppose that you have more than a million dollars in the bank, what would you rather be doing? What are your 'big picture' dreams and goals that you have and would love to achieve?

Try to create an inventory of the activities that you love doing. Is it baking, swimming, writing, dancing, or public speaking? When completing this inventory, you also need to take note of the number of hours each day that you devote to these undertakings. When you have done this inventory, you will have a good idea of what dominates your time. You will also understand which among these skills you do best. When you do, then perhaps you need to realign your priorities to focus on your passions more.

Focusing on your strengths and on the things that you do best will certainly help you rediscover your dreams and your purpose in life.
