Recovering From Your Nose Job

Recovering From Your Nose Job

Many people who either need, or are considering having nose surgery, want to know how long the rhinoplasty recovery period might be. The fact of the matter is that recovery does vary from patient to patient as how the surgeon undertakes the job and how the surgery proceeds depends very largely on the individual.

Rhinoplasty is one of those areas where the process is not always exact and so this area of surgery has one of the highest revision rates that is to say it is more likely that you will have to have further work with rhinoplasty than it is with most plastic or cosmetic surgery procedures. In some cases people want rhinoplasty reversed because they just cannot come to terms with the new look around ten percent of patients actually do undergo further surgery because of this.

If everything goes well with the surgery, and the doctor does not feel that it is necessary to resort to a general rather than a local anaesthetic then you can expect the following from your rhinoplasty recovery just bear in mind that this is a generalization and things could be very different for you depending on the circumstances.

Once surgery is complete and you feel recovered from the anaesthetic then you should expect to feel some pain, usually a dull headache and sore nose, if this becomes excessive then you should consult your doctor.

You should expect post operative swelling and bruising around the eyes following nose surgery, this can last from one to three weeks but if it hasn't gone down after that time then you should go back to the surgeon. Your rhinoplasty recovery may not be proceeding as well as it might do.

Most people should expect some bleeding after nose surgery although this is often lessened if the closed procedure is used. When the closed procedure is used there is no visible scarring and even with the open method this should be virtually unnoticeable. Extensive surgery however, can increase scarring and you may need a longer rhinoplasty recovery period. Sometimes scar tissue does not behave as expected and this can result in a slight whistling sound when the person is breathing.

If the bleeding is excessive during your rhinoplasty recovery then you might need a doctors advice. If you have had stitches during your surgery (which is often the case) then the stitches are usually removed a few days after the operation. Providing everything goes as planned you should be completely back to normal in around two weeks.
