Adding an RSS Feed to your Web Site

By MIKE JAKE

Adding an RSS Feed to your Web Site

If you are a web designer than you know it can be difficult at times or extremely time consuming to create content for your website. Even worse, is that the major search engines consistently rank web sites with little or no content lower on the index list or not at all. What is a web designer to do for fast and easy content? Many people have started to use RSS. RSS stands for really simple syndication. It is a way for one website to deliver content to the masses.

For a web designer with a little knowledge of code it is fairly simple to set up. The best part about RSS is that in most cases it is free to use but does require links and the source to be shown. Many sites such as Yahoo, CNN and USA Today offer RSS. Many of these services have restrictions of use. For instance, USA Today does not allow its RSS feeds to be seen on commercial sites. If you have Google Adsense or are selling a product you would be restricted from using their feed.

Another important thing to consider when using RSS feeds for web site content is the type of code used in the feed itself. For instance search engine spiders whose job it is to search and index new pages can not read java script. Java script is widely used in RSS feeds. If you would like content that will be able to be seen by both the web surfer and to search engine spiders, you will need to have RSS feeds in php code.

If you are interested in more information on RSS feeds and ways to easily install them, just do a quick search on RSS feeds on your favorite search engine and you will be sure to see hundreds of pages on the best ways to install and use RSS.
