Vacation rentals can be the perfect way to enjoy a comfortable vacation with a family. Although anyone can request vacation rentals, families find them the most useful and economical.
What is a vacation rental? Quite simply, it is a house that is available to rent in a tourist location for short periods of time. Some allow rentals of just two or three days, over the weekend, for example. Others require a week minimum. Prices vary drastically, depending on what part of the country the vacation rentals are located in.
The advantages of vacation rentals are numerous. Since you will be staying in someone's house (many vacation rentals are lived in by the owners during the off-season), you have all the comforts of home. The houses come fully furnished, with bedding, dishes, etc. Eating out is completely optional since you will have a fully equipped kitchen at your disposal. This makes your vacation even more economical.
In addition, you have your own television and VCR, allowing you to rent movies or even watch ones that the owners have made available. Often there is a decent library in these homes as well, so you will have new books to read. Most homes offer a large outdoor area, with or without gardens and play equipment. Check into this if you have children.
Many vacation rentals aimed at families will offer extras for children, including toys, a collection of board games and possibly play equipment outside as well as themed rooms for the younger set.
Some vacation rentals even come with a vehicle for your use, although you will have to sign papers absolving the owners of any financial responsibility for any accidents. Still, it can be a very useful addition to your vacation plans. Most vacation rentals also include brochures on the local sights and tours that you can take.
The majority of these rental homes are quite elegant and luxurious. Some are more of a beach cabin; it all depends on what you are looking for. If you enjoy swimming, you can choose a house that is near a lake or ocean beach or even one that has a pool. These are going to run you a bit more than the average vacation rentals.
You can find homes to rent just about anywhere that there is a tourist market. They are very popular, though so you will need to book early on, at least three months in advance, although some of the most popular areas are booked up to a year in advance. To get better rates, you might consider renting a place during the off-season, if this option is available. Although most owners return to their houses during the off-season, they may be willing to rent out the house for another week or so.
Vacation rentals are a great option if you are tired of living out of hotels with your kids climbing all over you. The space and affordability make these homes a good way to go when you are vacationing with the family.
