Refrigerators: Keeping It Fresh

Refrigerators: Keeping It Fresh

With the rate inflation is going these days, people should not forget the first lessons that one learns as early as kindergarten. To refresh your memory, let us go back to the story of "The Grasshopper and the ants." Yes, you should always remember to "save up for the rainy days." Savings do not only entail money but other resources which include among others one of our basic necessities: food!

Having leftovers after meals is nothing out of the ordinary. And a typical mom would not just go ahead and throw those out. What she does is place them in a sealed container and set them aside to be reheated for tomorrow's meal perhaps. But the trick with food is that it spoils easily. What may look like a scrumptious serving of spaghetti could smell and look like mush the very next day or even after a few hours.

In the primitive days, people kept their food fresh with the help of snow and ice. Holes padded with wood or straw were filled with snow and ice to keep food provisions from rotting. This could work if you live in regions were snow and ice are abundant but for people in heat shrouded locations, this poses a great setback.

Nevertheless, the solution to this dilemma has been answered with the introduction of refrigerators. The first artificial refrigerator was introduced to the world by William Cullen in the year 1748 at the University of Glasgow. The device used a vapor-compression process. How a refrigerator works is relatively simple. It makes use of the liquid evaporation cycle to absorb and take in heat.

Through time, creativity and innovation, refrigerators have developed through the years. Varieties include freezers, fridges, compressor refrigerators and coolers among others. Units can be powered by electricity or gas only while some utilizes both gas and electricity for maximum efficiency. Certain refrigerators offer features such as automatic defrosting, a process that cleanses the refrigerators system of layers of thick ice that has accumulated over time.

Refrigerators have revolutionized the storing of food items at almost every home worldwide. It has allowed families to keep a fresh stack of fruits and vegetables for periods of time. One's need for having your own garden or orchard in order to have moist and juicy stash of lean greens and fruits can now be done away with. All the same, slices and pieces of raw meat, fish and dairy products can be stored for a week's menu. And of course, let us not forget the leftovers.

Probably the most ingenious contribution that refrigerators offer is its ability to provide you with a refreshing glass of cold water whenever you need it. And nothing quenches thirst like a bottle of icy cold soda. Perhaps, let us not forget that with the introduction of refrigerators, we now get to take home and enjoy pints and pints of ice cream at the comforts of our home. On sunny, hot summer days, you can still get to enjoy both worlds with refrigerators.
