All About Modern Vans By Rad
Vans are available in all shapes and sizes, from the mini van to the five meter long van, which is the limit length for such a vehicle. Longer vehicles are already considered trucks. They are charming and useful at the same time. The etymology of the word van is simple: van comes from the word caravan, and it is a shortened form. At the beginning, a caravan designated a covered vehicle, but in time, this term has shifted its meaning. The meaning of a van differs in different parts of the world, for instance in the U.K., the van is a vehicle that transports people, being also a multiple purpose vehicle, while in Japan these are small busses to carry people.
The very first van in the U.S. was marketed by Volkswagen, and was back in the 1960s. Ford also came up with a sort of van, named the Ford Falcon, while Dodge was popular for its A 100 model of vans. The full size vans appeared thanks to Ford, which moved the engine frontward under the hood. The Dodge Sportsman added to the utility of the van, making the van big enough to transport 15 passengers. Ambulances and campers were soon made out of vans, and these were more than useful for their purpose.
In case you are looking for a van, there are plenty of models to choose from. You can get a van from Chevrolet- a Sportsman, a Nomad or a Supercarry, or you could get a Citroen van, a Daihatsu or a Dodge. Fiat offers you the Ducato and Punto and others, while Ford gives you the Econoline, the Escort, the Transit Connect, to name but a few of their models of vans. FSC, GAZ, FSO, GMC have also some surprises in stock for those who want a van. Other manufacturers of vans are Volkswagen, Vauxhall, Honda, Toyota, Suzuki, Subaru, Seat, Renault, Peugeot, Nissan, Kia, Mazda, Mitsubishi and last but not least Mercedes Benz. All these manufacturers have several models of vans that you can try out and enjoy for a long period of time.
